To maximize your creative freedom, the main requirement of your project is simply to use Kiro to build a working app. We've got four categories to help get your creative juices flowing, but don't let these box you in:

Productivity & Workflow Tools: Build the CLI of your dreams, the task tracker application that checks all your feature boxes, or design a scrum board that streamlines your team's process.
Games & Entertainment: From rogue-likes to real-time multiplayer games, if it's fun, we want to see it.
Educational Apps: Interactive coding tutorials, algorithm visualizers, or anything that makes learning enjoyable and engaging.
Wildcard: Do you have a unique idea that doesn't fit anywhere else? This is your space. Surprise us.

Our panel of judges feature some of the community's best and brightest, including experts like Tim Ruscica, Aishwarya Srinivasan, Angie Jones, Santiago Valdarrama, and Jeff Barr. Judges will evaluate projects based on their potential value, implementation leveraging Kiro, and quality of idea, with diverse prize categories like Influencer Judge’s Choice, Most Innovative Use of Kiro, and Best-In-[Track].

Key dates and submission details

The hackathon kicks off on July 14, 2025, with submissions due by August 25, 2025, at 12:00pm PT. Winners will be announced on October 1, 2025 across Kiro social channels on X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Your submission should include a demonstration video (maximum 3 minutes) that explains to the judges why it is a valuable solution and how Kiro was used to build it, a public GitHub repository with open-source code, and detailed project documentation.
