We are expanding Kiro for Students to 41 more universities worldwide. Students at every eligible school get one free year of Kiro. This includes 1,000 credits each month and paid features like premium models. See the full list of eligible universities.
We heard your feedback. We have updated the sign-up flow to ensure it is as seamless as possible.
Steps to sign up:
- Sign up or sign in to Kiro in the IDE, CLI, Web, or Crew using Google, GitHub, or AWS Builder ID.
- After signing in, navigate to the Settings page and click on the Students section. Check your school’s eligibility via the dropdown and click verify to complete your student verification.
- To complete your student verification via SheerID, you will need to provide your name, date of birth, and university email address. Additional documents may be required during the verification process to establish legitimacy. If you face any issues during the SheerID verification process, please contact SheerID via the form.
- Once verified, your tier name will change to Kiro Students on the Settings page and you will immediately have access to 1,000 credits per month for one full year.
If your university is not included within the currently eligible universities, you can request your school here.
A few things to keep in mind:
- One-time verification. You can only verify your student status once, so make sure your information is correct.
- Using your monthly credits. If you use all 1,000 credits, you will need to wait until your next monthly cycle. Unused credits do not roll over. You cannot purchase additional credits on this plan.
- After one year ends. Once your one-year access expires, your account will be automatically downgraded to the Kiro free plan.
You get one full year of free access to Kiro with 1,000 credits per month, along with access to models available in paid plans. You get Kiro across four surfaces: the IDE, the CLI, Kiro Web, and Kiro Crew. Here is how to actually use each one during a semester. You say what you want, Kiro breaks it down, and you stay in control. That is the skill that carries past graduation. Not just writing code, but breaking down a hard problem, picking the right tool, and directing the work.
Since we expanded the student program to 133 universities in September, we received a high volume of requests to add more schools. Students are already building what comes next. The best time to learn professional-grade tools is while you still have the freedom to explore, break things, and learn without pressure. AI agents are becoming part of the standard engineering toolkit, and we want every student to have real access to them.
We are bringing Kiro directly to campus, and now in more countries. Join the Kiro Student Discord Community to stay in the loop on campus visits, workshops, and hackathons we will be hosting at select schools around the world. We will share dates and details there first.
Want to co-host a hackathon with Kiro at your school? We would love to partner with you, wherever you are.

Kiro for Students is subject to additional terms and conditions.
We cannot wait to see what you build.
