Agent Templates are reusable configurations for an agent's model, prompt, tools, and Skills. Use one for a consistent starting point, then decide whether an agent or crewmate should track that template or own a private copy.
Open Agent Capabilities → Agent templates to see templates grouped by origin. You can create, duplicate, edit, or delete templates you own. Built-in and package templates remain read-only, with Duplicate available when you need an editable copy.
From a template, choose Chat with this template for a one-off session on shared default memory. Choose Enroll as crewmate to create a named crewmate with its own memory. A template already enrolled shows Already enrolled as a crewmate.
The Schedule page uses the same distinction. A crewmate job runs with that crewmate's workspace and memory. An Agent template job runs with the default crewmate's workspace and memory and creates no crewmate.
Open Agent Capabilities → Agents, select an agent, then open its Agent Template pane. The pane shows the active template and lets you edit the model and Skills when the agent is not following a parent template.
Your first edit forks a private copy rather than changing the shared template. Crew marks the agent Customized, shows a live count of how many fields differ from the template, previews what a save will write, and offers Save as new template when the variation should be reusable by others.
On the Kiro backend, the Capabilities pane can keep an agent linked to a parent template. Turn on Follow the parent template, then choose how each capability responds to parent changes:

When the parent template changes, Crew shows the incoming differences for review before you apply them. This keeps shared updates visible without silently replacing local exceptions.
When an agent has edits that differ from its template, Crew offers to save those edits as a new template. A forked copy is fully independent — parent template changes no longer flow into it. Use a private copy when one agent needs a durable variation that should not track the shared baseline.
